1. What Go Race Japan is
Go Race Japan lets runners outside Japan find Japanese running events and enter them in English.
We are not the organiser of any race on this site. Each race is run by its own organising committee. We handle the entry and the payment on their behalf, in English. Everything about the event itself — the course, the timing, the rules, safety, cancellation, prizes — is decided and run by the organiser.
By entering a race through this site you enter into a relationship with that organiser. We are the channel, not the event.
2. Who may enter
You may enter if you meet the eligibility rules the organiser sets for your chosen distance — usually a minimum age, sometimes a time limit you must be able to meet. These are shown on the race page.
If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must make the entry.
Entering under someone else's name, or letting someone else run under yours, is not allowed. Organisers' insurance does not cover it, and it puts you and the organiser at risk if something happens on the course.
3. What you pay
The price shown on each race page is what you pay. It includes:
- The organiser's entry fee for your chosen distance
- Our service fee of ¥3,000 per entry, which covers English entry, English support before the race, and payment handling
Optional extras — a medal, a shirt — are priced separately and shown before you pay.
Payment is in Japanese yen and handled by Stripe. Your bank or card issuer may add a foreign transaction fee. That is between you and them.
We never see your card details. Payment happens on Stripe's own page.
4. When your entry is confirmed
Your entry is confirmed when your payment succeeds and we send you a confirmation email. Until then it is not confirmed, however far through the form you have gone.
If your payment succeeds but the confirmation email does not arrive within a few hours, write to contact@goracejapan.com before entering again. Your entry is recorded when the payment completes, so a missing email usually means the email failed, not the entry.
5. Cancellations and refunds
The organiser's cancellation policy applies, and it is shown on each race page. Most Japanese races do not refund entry fees once paid. Read it before you pay.
Our ¥3,000 service fee is refunded only where we have not delivered the service — for example if your entry fails after payment, or the organiser cannot accept it.
If the race is cancelled, what you get back is decided by the organiser under their own policy. Many Japanese races refund the entry fee minus costs already incurred. We will pass on whatever the organiser decides and tell you what it is.
We cannot refund on grounds of weather, injury, travel disruption, visa refusal, or a change of plans, unless the organiser's policy provides for it.
6. Changing or transferring your entry
Whether you can change distance, change your details, or transfer your entry to another person is up to the organiser. Ask us and we will ask them.
Names and dates of birth must be accurate. Timing, age categories and insurance all depend on them.
7. Race day
On race day you are in the organiser's hands, and their rules apply. That includes safety instructions, time limits, retirement procedures and anything staff tell you on the course.
Running is a physical activity with real risk. Make sure you are fit enough for the distance you have entered. Most Japanese races require you to confirm this when you enter, and organisers carry their own event insurance. Check what that insurance covers — it may not cover everything, and it will not cover your travel or your belongings.
We are not present at races and we cannot help you on the day. Contact the organiser directly.
8. Information on race pages
Race pages on this site are written in English from information supplied by the organiser and from their official website. We check them before publishing.
Where our page and the organiser's official information differ, the organiser's is correct. Details change — start times, courses, cut-offs. Check the official site before you travel.
We are not responsible for loss caused by an error on a race page, beyond refunding what you paid us. Please tell us if you spot one.
9. Using this site
Please do not:
- Enter using false information or someone else's identity
- Attempt to interfere with the site or gain access you are not entitled to
- Copy race pages or content for commercial use
- Use the chat assistant to send abusive content or content unrelated to the race
- Automate entries or resell them
We may cancel an entry made in breach of this. Where the organiser's policy allows a refund, you will get one.
10. Your data
How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. Entering a race means agreeing to both.
Short version: we pass your entry details to the organiser because they need them to run the race; we use service providers in the United States for payment, email and the chat assistant; your data is stored in Japan; and we delete it after the race — 60 days for your name and email, 7 days for your emergency contact.
11. What we are responsible for
We are responsible for delivering the entry service: taking your entry accurately, passing it to the organiser, and handling your payment properly. If we fail at that, we will fix it or refund you.
We are not responsible for the race itself. Cancellation, changes, conditions on the course, injuries, prizes, timing, or anything the organiser does or fails to do, is between you and the organiser.
Where we are liable, our liability is limited to the total amount you paid us for that entry. This limit does not apply to damage caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, and it does not remove rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in the country where you live.
12. If something goes wrong
Email contact@goracejapan.com. We will reply.
Most problems are solved faster this way than through anything formal, and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
Any dispute that cannot be resolved by discussion will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Okayama District Court in Japan as the court of first instance.
If you are a consumer, this does not remove any right you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live, including the right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that law gives you one.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in force is the one published here when you enter. If we make a change that materially affects entries already made, we will tell you.
